README FILE FOR PS2311.EXE
This file contains both the PS2OPT.DSK (IBM SCSI Disk driver) and
PS2ESDI.DSK (IBM ESDI Disk Driver). These two drivers were combined for
convenience and ease of downloading. The following is the readme for both
of the files which includes enhancement descriptions and installation
instructions. FYI11081.DOC was included to help troubleshoot drive
deactivation problems.

PS2OPT.DSK for NetWare v3.11. This driver has been modified to include a
wider range of support for tape drives as well as other issues.
Tape units the driver has been tested with:
1. Exabyte 8200, 8mm
2. Exabyte 8500, 8mm
3. HP 35470, 4mm DAT
4. HP 35480A, 4mm DAT
5. HP 35450A, 4mm DAT
6. WangDat 3200, 4mm DAT
7. WangDat 1300, 4mm DAT
8. Archive Python, 4mm DAT
9. Cipher T860s, 1/2 inch tape
The following problems have been fixed:
1. Recovering when older disk drives would fail and hang the SCSI bus.
2. Occasionally failed to reload when there were active work stations.
3. Occasionally caused an ABEND when mounting all devices.
4. Taking too long to recover when a disk drive failed.
This driver provides support for ALL IBM SCSI controllers, bus based as
well as internal (MotherBoard). The internal (MotherBoard) controllers are
found on PS/2 models 56, 57, 76, 77, and 85.
A new option has been added to the command line (at the server) when
loading the disk driver, "LOAD PS2OPT.DSK /host", "/host" (in lower case
only). This option tells the driver to load the internal (MotherBoard)
SCSI controller that may not have been recognized. The PS2 model 85 must
use this command to load, all other currently known, do not need it.
At the request of IBM Novell has disabled the hardware Read-After-Write
verification initiated by PS2OPT.DSK. "NO RW VERIFY" will now be seen when
loading the driver. This feature can be reenabled in monitor or by using
the command line parameter "/verifyon" (all one word and must be in lower
case). When using the /verifyon parameter, the message "RW VERIFY" will be
seen when loading the driver.
To Install:
1. Rename the PS2OPT.DSK that is currently being used to PS2OPT.OLD.
2. Copy the new file PS2OPT.DSK onto the boot drive.

Issues Addressed:
» This driver is intended to fix volume dismounts, write errors, and drive
deactivation caused by timing problems. All drive deactivation problems
may not be fixed with this driver. See FYI11081.DOC, which is included in
this ZIP file, for tips on troubleshooting drive deactivation problems.
» Functionality has been added to allow PS2ESDI.DSK to coexist with
PS2OPT.DSK.
» The driver has also been modified to resolve some incompatibility issues
with newer IBM machines and IBM's ESDI controller.
To install this Disk Driver:
1) Copy PS2ESDI.DSK to the subdirectory that contains SERVER.EXE and
STARTUP.NCF on the boot partition after renaming the original to .old.
